- tmsgramDreamy experience at Vomo! Traveling from the USA, Vomo is a long way to go. But from the second we arrived, we were treated like royalty and thrilled with our experience!
We spent a week on Vomo for our honeymoon, staying in a hillside villa. The amenities were fantastic - the villa was beautiful, resort grounds extremely well-kept, and dining areas organized and clean.
The island itself would be difficult to beat. It is completely surrounded by beautiful coral. Daily (complimentary) snorkeling excursions explore all the beautiful coral around the island. If you are out-doorsy, take a hike up Mount Vomo, but do this early in the morning or late in the evening so you aren't exposed by the midday sun.
The food, OH the food. It was phenomenal. Every meal offers a starter, entree, and dessert, and we were blown away by almost everything we ate there. Fresh juices and fresh-caught seafood were in almost every meal. We literally watched the staff bring in fish they caught in the morning for meals that day. Unreal!
One of the major highlights was the staff. Every person was so friendly and welcoming. They would literally do anything we asked (and some things we didn't ask) to make our experience unforgettable. Like I said earlier, we truly felt like royalty based on the excellent service. Be sure to get to know the staff members. They are great people, and have so much to share about Fiji and Vomo both.
Finally, the "little things" and attention to detail were really what made Vomo "home". From the nightly turndown service, to every staffmember greeting guests with a hearty "bula", to the cold minted towels at meals on a hot day, to bug spray in the rooms and at the bars, the little things are really what made this island feel like home in our week there.
A few "pro tips":
- If staying in a hillside villa, request one high up on the hill. The walk is difficult to get up there, but the view is SO worth it.
- Grab lunch on the beach - kick off your shoes and enjoy the sand between your toes as you eat!
- Don't miss sunset at the Rocks Bar!
- We took the boat from Port both to & from the island. The boat to the island wasn't bad, but we recommend taking a plane or helicopter back to the airport. It just saves on travel time and keeps you out of the elements at the start of a long journey home.
We really felt like we were leaving our 2nd home when we left Vomo. Thank you & vinaka for such a great week there! - 17/11/18read moreread less - CheezelFirst time to Vomo We travel to Fiji several times a year and on this trip we decided to try Vomo Island for the first time. We were not disappointed.
The transfer is smooth, convenient and sees you on the island in around one and a half hours from leaving the Nadi departure lounge. Vomo meets you, takes you on an easy just over 30 minute drive to Vuda Marina where a fast, clean boat is waiting to transport guests to the island. Alternatively, they recommend helicopter from Nadi International, or there is an option to use float plane (this sometimes requires customers to wait extended periods of time before transportation).
On arrival at Vomo the greeting is the normal, friendly Fijian welcome. At this stage I must point out the staff are friendly, relaxed and attentive. A special mention of Tim who we met on another resort years ago, great service, knowledge and help throughout our stay.
Our accommodation was on the hillside, a small but steep climb which was pleasant and offered nice water and foliage views. The room was well appointment and the cleaning done efficiently each day. Bathroom was spacious, decks lovely with nice sunbed and small table and chairs to enjoy. The bedroom was adequate and a curtain can be drawn across for guests with children. The fridge is well stocked with both nibbles and non-alcoholic, complimentary beverages. Loved the cookies given every couple of days to enjoy and the complimentary laundry service is appreciated as the chore of washing clothes becomes tiresome and difficult.
We enjoy walking and made the trip to the yoga platform and around most of the beaches. Didn’t get to Eastern Beach as the rocks were slippery and our footwear inadequate. Some of the climbs are steep and should be done early in the day, when the heat is not excessive. The views from vantage points are spectacular and the grounds on the island are beautifully maintained. There is a small library, TV room (TV’s were not in our room. Although we do not often watch we do like the option especially in inclement weather). Children appear well catered for with a kids club and many smiling staff members occupying the smaller guests. There is even golf for those so inclined.
Off island activities are the normal and we did thoroughly enjoy the picnic. It is on a small, steep island just off Vomo itself. Interesting rock formations, caves and although the beach is small it is beautiful and the water crystal clear. The packed lunch was lovely and the addition of table and chairs on the beach a nice touch.
“The Rocks” is an adults only area. The location is beautiful, the pool luke warm and the view gorgeous. The attention around the pool, by staff, is efficient and friendly and a small van/bus can transport quests if they do not wish to walk. The bar area is pleasant and there is a restaurant with lovely water views. The evening meal is offered, at this stage, twice per week. We ate here once and enjoyed the meal. However, we did not have a memorable lunch and preferred what was available in the main restaurant. This is obviously only our opinion but some more “ordinary” choices would have been appreciated as many were not to our taste. We do dine overseas, including Fiji, extensively.
The main restaurant offers breakfast and includes a cool room. We have not seen this at another resort and it was fantastic keeping food fresh and free of flies. Lovo evening was superb and the service good with attention to detail that is often lacking in Fijian resorts. The meals were good, but not the most memorable part of our stay (Lovo night had an exceptional and decadent dessert choice). A special mention to Zac whose incredible voice we have enjoyed in the past (at a resort we often frequent). Lovely to hear him again and enjoy one of the best voices we have come across in Fiji.
One of our main concerns, before this visit, was that Vomo might be too formal to suit us. Definitely this was not the case. They are relaxed and attentive, while obviously you can dress formally if you so wish, most people are there to step back, enjoy Fiji and the beach/holiday atmosphere. We will definitely be back to Vomo in the future and have no hesitation in recommending it to both families, individuals and couples. - 24/10/19read moreread less - Niki TAn island retreat, in a heavenly place. What more could one wish for… Where to start from the beginning our entire week was faultless. Our boat transfer to and from Vomo was smooth, comfortable and enjoyable, as we passed all the other islands on our way to Vomo, it was so picturesque. We arrived with the smiling Fijian staff singing in their divine voices a welcome song, as we were each gifted a wooden necklace, which I can say I do wear with several dresses. Our checkin was quick and informative of what we can do and see on the island. We had booked a family villa called The Palms. It sleeps 8. Oh my goodness! It was absolutely stunning, and on the beachfront. We could get up each morning and simply plop into the warm Fijian ocean straight out the front. Amazing. Checkout the website, but in real life The Palms was way better than we expected. We had a sweet Fijian girl Ekka, allocated to look after us from first thing in the morning, to the evening. Ekka discreetly popped up everywhere, wanting to assist where ever was needed. She set the table and arranged lunch to be delivered to our villa from The Rocks restaurant, when we just wanted to hang by our villa pool and not go out. She even went and got a takeaway coffee for us from the main restaurant if we wanted a barista one, instead of the pod machine in the villa, which was used as well and plenty of pods supplied. The fridge was stocked with treats and plenty of ice to make our drinks. Ekka served us at every meal in whatever restaurant we chose, the Rocks or the main restaurant and learnt our likes. The meals we had were fresh and delicious. We did not have a bad meal, breakfast lunch or dinner. The service from every staff member came with a huge smile and a gentleness, and so professional as well. We loved The Rocks, adults only pool and restaurant. The views were beyond spectacular. The Thursday we were there, The Rocks pool area had a fabulous live band that could play anything. Drifting in the pool, holding a margarita and listening to the live vibes whilst starring across the Vomo Lai Lai Island, is a memory I will not forget. The staff also passed around adult ice creams, like a pina colada ice cream and a rum and coke popcicle, whilst we lazed around. Heaven! I snorkelled many times right out the front of The Palms Villa, which was so good. I saw a reef shark and so many fish and the corals were so pretty and colourful. It was just so easy. No boat required. The time we were on the island there were many young families, the island has so many beautiful areas you can be part of the family scene or simply wander and find your own secret spot on the white sandy beach. I could go on and on. It truely was the most relaxing, refreshing and tranquil holiday we had ever been on. Vomo is deserving of its tourism awards. We will be back, maybe even with the grandkids. A big thank you to all the gracious and kind staff of Vomo. - 01/05/23read moreread less
- George S" the best time ever ' From the time you arrive at the airport, and check in and leave the island , most incredible experience and memorable holiday anyone can hope for. Arrive to the staff singing the welcome song and then a tearful goodbye song with operatic voices, even brought a tear to my eye. The Staff - never experienced anywhere in the world such service and more importantly with the biggest smiles. Food - was first class. Special mention Jason GM and Tila, who was amazing, caring and I wanted to take her home. Best of all was the coffee I am a coffee nut. Special shout out to water sports team. All round great experience booking again today. - 01/11/22read moreread less
- TMThe best family holiday I have ever had. This is the best family holiday I have ever been on (2 adults, plus 3yo and 9yo). The staff are extraordinary, and will with authentic care do anything required to take care of your children, any issue, and address any booking you need. The kids club is fantastic and the nannies and 'bulla buddies' (hi Reuben and Una!) are expert at keeping kids of all ages happy. The island is postcard perfect - to the point that our photos probably don't even look real. There is no traffic, and everything seems safe, so kids can run around. The food is to die for. The hiking trails are magnificent, and you can walk around the entire island in 1-2 hours at low tide. The daily snorkelling trip at 11am takes you to accessible reefs with hundreds of fish and living reef. The management and senior staff (and even the owners in our case!) make a point of chatting to you and getting to know you. I just cannot fault this place not speak of it more highly. It is expensive in absolute terms, but the fact that it is 'all inclusive' means you don't ever thinking about the cost of 'this or that', and can just enjoy everything. - 01/07/23read moreread less
- Ken SA Luxury Resort with a Big Smile The most wonderful thing about VOMO are the 'always friendly, happy, delightful staff'. Then comes the magic of the resort. We stayed in 'The Beach House', which is a private 'residence' with three King Sized bedroom suites, a 14 metre pool (and a Private Butler) right on the beach. A truly magnificent, quiet and private setting. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and when we caught fish on a deep sea fishing expedition, the Chef's cooked it all up for us on the same day. Snorkelling, eating, kayaking, fishing and so much more, all made our trip 'Perfect'. It is not cheap ..but you do get what you pay for. Bottom line ..we will return. And that says it all ! Bula !!! - 01/05/23read moreread less
- Amy RThe most wonderful place on earth! We have just come back from spending 7 wonderful, luxurious days is Vomo Island. Our 5th trip and it did not disappoint! The island really is 5 star! From the welcome song to the staff members remembering your name, it truly is one of the best! The wifi is pretty much non existent, which in hindsight was a blessing. It really makes you check out! The accommodation is perfect, with twice daily room service! Our only thought now is when we can book to return. Don’t forget to book a snorkel trip to White Rock. It’s the most wonderful experience we have ever had with both snorkeling and swimming with reef sharks. Gili and Tulu were amazing guides! So many beautiful staff to name a few! Anna, who remembered us from 6 years ago! Mare as our waitress, to Va and the F&B manager - 01/03/23read moreread less
- Carla123The best luxury family holiday Our second time at Vomo and it will certainly not be our last. If you are looking for a luxury family holiday, Vomo is the number one destination in Fiji. As a family with young kids, we could not ask for a better kids club and nanny experience nor a kids menu which suits even the pickiest of eaters. While the resort is luxurious, it is not "stuffy" and kids are always welcome along with resort attire. The snorkelling team are excellent and taught our son how to snorkel with such confidence. It is wonderful to see the kids make friendships with other kids in the pool and at kids club, they all have an absolute ball together. This is amazing as it allows us parents to enjoy family time and "adulting" while on holiday. On adulting time you can enjoy the adults only pool, restaurant, bar or park yourself in a hammock with a book on the beach and you feel like you are the only person on the island. Every meal is cooked to perfection, the menu will cater to your dietary requirements and the management team are always available to check-in to see if you need anything else. We always leave Vomo saying we should of booked an extra few nights, it is never enough. Thank you Vomo family for always making it a memorable and special time. - 01/07/23read moreread less
- Stephanie MAmazing as ever! This was our second time on VOMO and it was just as amazing at it was 3yrs ago. We stayed for 5 nights in a Beachside Villa with our 6yr old and 2yr old. We also holidayed with my sister, her husband and their 1yr old who stayed in the villa next to ours. The villa was a perfect size for our family of 4. A cot was set up for our 2yr and the large day bed was made up for our 6yr old. The curtain divided their beds to ours and we all slept very soundly. The bathroom and wardrobe are very generous as is the front deck with deck chairs and table/chairs. You want to pinch yourself every time you look at the view from your villa -green lawn adorned with palm trees onto white sand onto turquoise water. It was the most magical family holiday we could have ever imagined. The staff - 01/11/22read moreread less
- Sarah R7 nights in paradise Our expectations were high after hearing wonderful things about the island and staff, and we are so happy to say that Vomo lived up to the hype in every way! Kind staff, incredible food and breathtaking snorkelling trips were the stand outs. The resort feels small and intimate - very special atmosphere. Getting there - we flew direct from Brisbane, and were met at the airport by a Vomo driver who took us in a clean vehicle with car seat for baby. It was a smooth ~30 min drive straight to the Marina, and a comfortable 35min boat ride. Island - absolutely stunning. We appreciated the natural beauty and lush gardens. 10/10 Room - comfortable for 2 adults and 2 small kids, with a lovely view to the ocean (only a few steps away). There is a partition that divides the room. Bed was comfortable and we appreciated the AC for cooling down for baby's nap during the day. I do think 2 separate bedrooms would be great for older kids. Food - this was honestly THE HIGHLIGHT. Absolutely surpassed all expectations! A la carte, so much variety, all beautiful & fresh. Some of the best meals we have ever eaten. The serving staff were also wonderful (special shout out to Ella who my girls both adored!). Brekkie on the beach was gorgeous and we loved that the kids could run (& we could stress less about them not being the tidiest eaters). Parent hack: you can order food from the kids menu at any time of the day - an absolute life saver. I did specifically enquire about this before we left as I was trying to decide whether to take snacks for the kids - the reception staff member I spoke with via email didn't seem to know this bit of info. Activities - we couldn't fault the team at Ocean Play they were just amazing. Special shoutout to Hannah and Cas who went above and beyond to make my 4yo daughter feel brave when she wanted to kayak with us. Highly recommend the daily snorkelling trip - colourful coral and abundant fish & sharks. Our expectations for the house reef were surpassed! We went on 2 dives and very happy with the guides and gear. Kids club - lovely kids club and we appreciated the schedule of activities being printed out in advance so we could pick and choose what we thought our kids would like to join. Lots of variety! Staff were very warm and friendly, and we felt confident our daughter was well cared for during her visits. My only real constructive criticism would be that it was never explained to us how to call / use the Nanny service for our 1yo baby. No mention at check-in, or when we first visited Kids Club to introduce ourselves. It would be great if this could be built in to the check -in process (perhaps with the baby-sitter allocated to our family coming to say hi on Day 1, introduce herself etc). We were very confused and told different things by different staff at kids club - thought we had booked the Nanny to watch baby at a certain time, but then when we arrived at the kids club she wasn't there. A clear explanation would be fantastic - your Nanny is allocated to your family for the week, here is how to contact her, you can pre-book times and can split the 4h - e.g. 2h for an activity in the morning, and then 2h at night once bub asleep so parents can eat alone. This was the only complication in an otherwise perfect stay. Thanks again to all the incredible staff - we hope to return one day soon! - 01/09/23read moreread less
